If you know them, so you are a deep underground electronic music listenner. Octet are a French experimental band. My favorite is Anti-camp Policy but many users on Last.fm know the Hey Bonus song but just listen to both. Personaly I really prefer Anti-camp Policy because if you listen carefuly you’ll discover many other background sounds.
Band biography
The French electronic pop duo Octet is comprised of François Goujon and Benjamin Morando. Goujon, a Rennes native and former drummer with a band called Lighthouse, and Morando, a Parisian and a member of the D*I*R*T*Y sound system, originally conceived Octet as a strictly electronic outfit, but soon found that they preferred to integrate glitchy, playful electronica with more traditional forms of instrumental and vocal pop and soul, as well as elements of classical music. Octet’s first EP, The Buxtehude Years 1999-2001, reflected this dichotomy: sporting vocal tracks featuring Suzanne Thoma (who has also collaborated with M83) as well as remixes by Readymade FC, it paved the way for the duo’s first full-length album, Cash and Carry Songs, which featured Thoma and other vocalists as well as a unique mix of soul, electronica, classical, and pop influences. The album was released in France and Germany in early 2004 and was distributed in the U.S. that summer.

I discovered this song this morning and listen to it over 50 times! I love it!!! I plan to make a trip in Norway. It’s gonna be the third Norwegian artist I discover I really appriciate their songs. Reallly beautiful.
Band biography
Flunk is a Norwegian electronic band consisting of members producer Ulf Nygaard, guitarist Jo Bakke, drummer Erik Ruud, and vocalist Anja Oyen Vister.
The band began as a project between Ulf, and Jo in Oslo, Norway in winter 2000/2001. Beginning as an instrumental and sampled vocal project, they were signed for a track on a compilation by Beatservice Records in winter 2001. On hearing the finished track, label manager Vidar Hanssen signed the unnamed band for a full album.
During early summer 2001, Ulf and Jo recorded most of the album and Anja improvised the vocals. After their vocals, Jo layered the guitars, but it would be a year before the album would be completed and released.
In spring 2002, the band was known as Flunk and they released their first single, a cover of New Order’s Blue Monday in April. The track was well received in the UK and was included on numerous compilations in North America and Europe. Later in April, their debut album For Sleepyheads Only was released which garnered great reviews in Norway. With the success of their album, BBC invited them to do a recording session for the Radio 1 show The Blue Room in London. Shortly after Notting Hill Art’s Club would become the location to their live debut. In the United States, they became signed to Guidance Recordings.
By summer 2002, raving reviews were being returned by British electronica magazines and in July they played Norway’s finest rock festival. In October For Sleepyheads Only was released in the US through Guidance Recordings. By November they played the London Jazz Festival.

Excellent rock music. Just appreciate!
Band biography
The Dandy Warhols are a psychedelic pop/rock band formed in Portland, Oregon by Courtney Taylor-Taylor (vocals & guitar), Zia McCabe (Synthesizer), Peter Loew (guitarist), and Eric Hedford (drums). When Hedford left in 1999, Taylor-Taylor’s cousin Brent De Boer replaced him as drummer, where he has remained since. The band’s name is a play on the name of pop artist Andy Warhol.
The Dandy Warhols are strongly influenced by The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Velvet Underground and The Rolling Stones as well as including implicit musical references to Jethro Tull and My Bloody Valentine in some songs. Frontman Courtney Taylor-Taylor describes the band beginning as a group of friends who “needed music to drink to.” The band performed live shows in bars throughout Portland and released their first album, “Dandys Rule Ok?” in 1995. This album was largely ignored but is cited as influential in Capitol Records’ decision to sign the band. Many Dandy Warhols fans claim that this album contains some of the band’s best material, tending to single out the energetic “lou weed,” the melodically complex “PlayDick” (possibly the closest to shoegaze the Dandy Warhols have gotten), and the 16-minute jam session “It’s a Fast-Driving Rave Up With the Dandy Warhols 16 Minutes”, which features both a prelude and a finale.

Personal comments
I discovered Koop 5 years ago with the song Waltz for Koop, a really beautiful song and if you appriciate this song just listen to Come To Me, you will fall in love of Koop songs.
While searching info about them on the Internet, I learned that they also provided music for the TV Show: Grey’s Anatomy.
Band biography
Koop is the Swedish electronic jazz duo of Magnus Zingmark and Oscar Simonsson from Uppsala, Sweden, formed in 1995. Though the music may sound as if it is played by a tight jazz group, it is actually sample-based. Thousands of small clips of drums, strings, horns, and choirs are taken from old records and puzzled together into new songs. This time consuming production process is one of the reasons Koop’s albums are released 4-5 years apart.
The group’s 3 albums all feature guest vocalists. On their latest, “Koop Islands”, the singers are Yukimi Nagano, Ane Brun, Hilde Louise Asbjornsen, Rob Gallagher and Mikael Sundin. Also contributing to the percussion, solos, and bass are Mattias Ståhl, Magnus Lindgren, Karl Frid, Nils Berg, Martin Höper, Ola Bothzén, Dan Berglund and Mats Lindfors.
Live, Koop transforms into a 7-9 piece swing orchestra including 1-3 singers. The lineup varies from time to time.
Koop prefers to label their music “romantic swingtronica”.

Robbie Williams - Rock DJ
Personal comments
Did you know Robbie Williams was a member of a boys band (Take that)? Whatever, Robbie Williams took music really seriously and did many successful songs. Famous in 1999 and 2000 I had one of the first MD (MiniDisc) provided from an artist (or major… you choose.)
Band biography
While Williams’ early pop career started with the hit boy band Take That, he has found far greater success since taking his leave. The band was formed in 1990 and had 8 United Kingdom Number 1 singles to their credit. Their popularity led to a succession of similar bands in the United Kingdom.
However, it has since been suggested that Williams’ roguish qualities meant that he didn’t fit into the band, and he frequently battled with his fellow band members and his management. After leaving the band in 1995, the final Take That album Nobody Else was re-issued in some markets excluding songs where Robbie Williams was the lead vocalist. The final Take That single, “How Deep Is Your Love,” is the only one that didn’t feature Williams.
In November 2005, ITV1 screened a documentary on Take That, including the reasons behind Williams’ departure, including interviews with Williams and his former fellow band members. Williams declined the offer to reunite with the band, but spoke to them via a pre-recorded video message.
Take That, reformed without Williams and due to tour in early- to mid- 2006, have extended an open invitation for Williams to join them on stage if he wishes to. Williams has apparently given the reformation his blessing.
After Take That
After leaving Take That, Williams immersed himself in the pop lifestyle. This included an affected swagger and an infamous appearance during Oasis’s headlining set at Glastonbury in 1995. He had dyed his hair platinum blond and painted his teeth black for the concert. Liam Gallagher, the lead singer for Oasis, often referred to Williams as “that fat dancer from Take That.”

Personal comments
When I discovered Lemon Jelly it was in 2000 they was just beginning to be popular. I like all their albums and I sure you will appreciate one of them. Why? Because use a large of music knowledge and exploit them for creative and experimental music.
Band biography
Lemon Jelly (formed in 1998 was a British electronica duo from London, UK consisting of Nick Franglen and Fred Deakin.
Franglen and Deakin initially released three limited-circulation EPs, The Bath (1998), The Yellow (1999), and The Midnight (2000), which were then collected into a widely-released album in 2000, lemonjelly.ky, which was both a critical and a commercial success.
Their second album (and self-proclaimed first studio album), Lost Horizons, was released in 2002, and was another success.
Their last album, 2005’s ’64-‘95, featured a sticker to warn listeners that “This is our new album. It’s not like our old album.” The title comes from the fact that each track features a single sample drawn from years between 1964 and 1995, incorporating each sample in a variety of imaginative ways.
Some of their best or well-known songs are:
- The Staunton Lick
- Kneel Before Your God
- Space Walk
- Nice Weather For Ducks
- ’75 aka Stay With You
- ’90 aka A Man Like Me
They have also made mix sets for Radio 1’s Mary-Anne Hobbs’ ‘Breezeblock’ show, as well as for a variety of other shows (6 Mix, XFM’s ‘The Hijack’, The Blue Room, etc). They have remixed a number of other artists, including Badly Drawn Boy, Pet Shop Boys and Coldcut, as well as collaborating with William Shatner on a track from his latest album.
Fred Deakin is also co-founder and creative director of print and interactive design agency, Airside
